Say less. Keep the handoff moving.
These are private producer lines, not on-air copy. Adjust the segment length, then keep the intent intact.
Give the speaker a clear start
- Host: “Over to you, [name].”
- Producer, privately: “You have 12 minutes. I’ll cue you at five and one.”
- Speaker: “Got it.” Then start the segment timer.
Name the remaining time
- Producer, privately: “Five minutes. Land the current point, then move to the close.”
- Do not add a new instruction or explain why the clock changed.
- If the speaker is already closing, let the countdown do the work.
Protect the next segment
- Producer, privately: “One minute. Please wrap on this point.”
- Host prepares the next question or transition before the timer reaches zero.
- If the speaker runs long, use the agreed cut: one final sentence, then hand back to the host.
Keep the cue with the producer.
